Welcome to the junior high school athletic experience and all it has to offer to all students with a variety of talents, abilities, and interests!
Listed below are brief descriptions of the sports available to our students to help them get involved in a positive and interactive way during their junior high school years.
** All interscholastic sports require a current physical on file with the athletic director, online registration prior to tryouts, and an $80 fee.**
Boys’ and Girls’ Cross Country
Cross Country is a challenging individual, yet very much a team sport. This activity is offered to all boys and girls from 6th grade to 8th grade. The most important thing you will learn is to challenge yourself and improve yourself every day that you run. Cross Country is open to all students of all abilities and you will have coaches and teammates that will push you and encourage you to do your very best. Our season runs from August until October and our competition is excellent.
7th Grade Girls’ Volleyball
This sport takes place during the fall season and is held after school and on some Saturdays. Athletes must have a current physical on file prior to trying out for the team. Tryouts begin in August and take place for 2-3 days, immediately after school. The season consists of approximately two or three games during the week. Practices will be determined by each coach.
7th and 8th Grade Boys’ Soccer
Boys soccer takes place during the fall season is held after school and is open to all 7th and 8th-grade boys. The goal of junior high soccer is to have fun and develop your skills so that you will be ready to participate at the high school level. Players at this age have different skill levels and we try to take that into consideration when training. We try to plan practices so that all players, from the most skilled to the beginners, learn something new.
7th Grade Boys’ Basketball
Tryouts for this team are usually around mid-October. Practices run every day after school and on some Saturday mornings. Boys basketball takes place during the late fall/early winter season. All participants must have a current physical, signed sports waiver, and pay an activity fee, prior to tryouts.
8th Grade Boys’ Basketball
Tryouts for this team are usually around mid-October. Practices run every day after school and on some Saturday mornings. Boys basketball takes place during the late fall/early winter season. All participants must have a current physical, signed sports waiver, and pay an activity fee, prior to tryouts. Players will be required to dress in a shirt and tie for all away games. Players must also arrange for rides from practices and games.

Wrestling
Wrestling is open to ALL 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade students who are looking to participate. We are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for students who want to learn the sport of wrestling. We will offer a learning atmosphere that is appropriate for all skill levels and experiences, ranging from the fundamentals and basic rules of the sport to advanced techniques for wrestlers ready to compete at the highest levels. We meet after school until approximately 5:00 PM. Parents are expected to be on time to pick up their children. All participants must have a current physical, signed sports waiver, and pay an activity fee.
Pom Squad
The Traughber pom squad consists of 7th and 8th-grade girls and boys who dance during halftime of the boys’ basketball games. The season runs from October through December. Each routine showcases the 7th and 8th-grade team's dance skills and Traughber spirit in a two-minute choreographed routine. The Traughber dance squad emphasizes precision and synchronized motions along with technical dance skills (such as jumps, turns, and leaps). Their routines encompass various styles of dance, including hip-hop, jazz, lyrical, and kicklines. A key feature of the dance is the ability to change formations very smoothly.

Our cheerleading team is made up of 7th and 8th-grade girls and boys who cheer on the sidelines and perform at the halftime of boys’ basketball. These cheerathletes perform at home games and encourage the spectator’s and team’s spirit. Cheerleading is a physical activity; the components of the cheerleading performance are tumbling, dancing, jumping, cheers, and stunting. The cheer season begins in mid-October and runs through mid-December.

The 7th Grade Girls’ Basketball Team will consist of student-athletes looking for a competitive challenge against other young ladies in our surrounding area schools. The team concept and commitment to the team will be stressed as well as the encouragement to improve and be an active participant. Everyone comes into the program with different abilities but will leave knowing they are an important and intricate part of the team. Tryouts and practices are required and an important way to demonstrate your abilities. Please keep your eyes and ears open for upcoming announcements in December and early January.
8th Grade Girls’ Basketball
Basketball is an interscholastic sport played from early January until early March. The activity is open to all 8th-grade girls. Teams are selected on a tryout basis and will vary in number from 15 to 18. Players are held to high standards as students and as young women. Eligibility is kept on a weekly basis. Participants must have an updated physical on hand with the nurse and must pay the athletic fee. Practices are held from 3:15 until 5:30 and on Saturday mornings. Players are expected to attend practices and games. Players will be required to dress in their "Sunday Best" for all away games. Players must also arrange for rides from practices and games.

Events include; long jump, triple jump, high jump, shot put, discus throw, hurdles, and short and long-distance running events.
